Sweet Liam,
I'm so thankful I can still call you "Sweet" Liam, terrible-two have not taken hold of you (I'm hoping our consistent parenting will help them pass over our family).
You go to Daycare/Pre-School for many reasons two of which are 1.) I put myself through college, I want to work and 2.) have student loans so with our mortgage I have to work for our family. It is not a burden for me to work but a choice I willingly make. Your Grandma Patty is semi-retired, she did this so she could watch you three days a week, it's an incredibly blessing for the whole family! The other two days a week you go to Daycare/Pre-School near Dadda's work, the teachers and other students there love you and you enjoy it....except for first thing in the morning when I drop you off. It breaks my heart how you cry and so "NO Momma, NO!" Even when you and G wave to be out the window you cry as I sign "I love you" to you (our new thing, you giggle any other time I do it!). I know the rest of your day is wonderful, your teachers send me pictures to prove it but dang is it hard on me. I don't know how to make it better, I've tried countless things and nothing works. You go there Monday & Tuesday mornings and Monday is by far the worst, I dread it but try not to let you sense it for fear of making it even worse.
I know these days are fleeting, these moments I may not even remember one day. Is it bad that I pray I won't recall the times I cried on the way to work? Part of the point of this blog is so that I recall everything I can about your childhood, both the good and not so good because it's all so important to me. The other part of that is I want you to have these memories from me, I want you to have them to reflect back on one day perhaps when you are raising your own child (hopefully I'll be around for that, even near-by maybe!)
Parenting is not always easy my love, there are hard choices to be made and even when you know you are making the right one it can sometimes feel like an incredible challenge. Trust yourself if you are reading this and pondering your own parenting decisions, trust your gut....I pray that we've raised you to have a wonderful and loving childhood that you can reflect upon and cherish. I'm always just a phone call away!
I love you Liam, I will always be proud of you!

Quick Note
Dearest Liam,
We had the best weekend, our little family spent lots of time together just hanging out....these are some of my favorite times. That is one of the best things you have taught me; to just slow down and live in this moment and just play cars. And I love it, love it!
I wanted to take a quick moment and just say something, you know in case there is a day when I can't; just so you know I love you fiercely. Our family time is sacred to me and you are first and foremost my number 1 priority in this life. I have loved every moment of being your mom, even the really hard and frustrating moments (you'll know what I mean when you have a toddler one day, said with a smile). I mean it from the depths of my heart and soul each time I tell you I love you. I pray that I get to see you be a teenager and you can be annoyed when I hug/kiss you and tell you I love you.
I know I won't always be your friend but I will always be your mom. I hope I am able to teach you important things, to love God and others, to be kind, to read and run. It's a big job to be a good mom and raise a good man but I'm trying.
Thank you for the greatest gift,
Momma
While I'm here a quick note on your favorite things: matchbox cars, trains in any shape or form but especially Thomas the Train on tv. You love fish sticks, peas and any kind of pasta or fruit. (There really isn't much food you don't like aside from Olives and eggs which you used to love). When you get really happy or excited you say "mom-mom-mom-mom" over and over as fast as you can and it melts my heart. You love books as much as ever, you could easily spend a whole day bringing me books to read you. You could also spend each and every day outside all day, summer will be here soon my love and I promise you lots of outside time!

Goodbye Morning Nap, Hello Molars
Sweet Liam,
Holy Smokes, it's true when they say your child(ren) grow up so fast! It feels like just yesterday you couldn't hold up your own head how you're a running fool!
A few weeks ago you started to transition out of your morning nap and like all other things so far we've let you take the lead on being ready or not. You were clearly ready, so we had Nanna encourage it a little. Within just two weeks you were fully transitioned, we had one little set back while you weren't feeling so great but now we are clear on the side of no return. And ya know what? I'm so happy! I know a lot of parents morn the loss of the morning nap because they fit in more "me" time or clean or whatnot and I certainly did use it as "me" time on Saturdays. BUT this whole single two hour nap in the middle of the day is delightful! We can leave the house for more than two hours at a time, why hello going to church! You are clearly happy with the change as well. It makes fitting a weekend workout in a little trickier for me but it's ok, I'd rather have the extra time with you anyway.
And in similar news you have a mouth full of teeth! Seriously! I had no idea this is how teething went! You started in March and it's been pretty much back to back teeth! Now you're getting molars! Molars! What?! You just don't seem old enough for this business! Poor little guy, man they tell you molars are a b---h and they are! I couldn't for the life of me figure out why you'd been so incredibly grumpy lately then I stuck my finger in your mouth, because that is what moms do....and hello THREE molars trying to come in (one had at least broken through the skin and two others are super puffy). Duh Jen! Gosh I felt like a bad mom, all you wanted was teething tablets!!! And you was a saint after I gave them to him. This whole parenting thing sure has a learning curve!
I love you so much and love watching you grow up!!

Pretty Much a Toddler
Hi Sweet Boy,
Well, it's here. I'm pretty sure I have to consider you a toddler now. You can walk, not just a few steps but like 12 steps! You still fall but mostly because you can crawl much faster! Haha! You can navigate between pieces of furniture and when you really want to you can just gun it and make it to another room or across the room your in! And it's adorable, you are so proud of yourself but not nearly as proud as Dadda and I are! It's hard to believe that soon you will completely shed crawling and just walk/run!
You are growing up so quickly, I don't wish it would stop.....just slow down a little maybe. I have loved each and every stage, everyday you become more and more fun! I love having my "little buddy" at my side!
Thank you for....everything. For being such a easy, happy boy. For being so loving, kind and fun. For being a good sleeper, a good eater.... For being so funny and fun. For being our son, whom we love so dearly.
I love you to the moon and back,
Momma

Parent First, Friend Second
Dearest Liam,
I need to get better at writting to you here. It's just that we have been enjoying summer so much, sometimes I forget to document it!
I want you to have fond memories of your childhood, I hope you look back on it and smile because I always played with you no matter what. Even in the morning when I'm in my nice work clothes I get on the floor with you and enjoy whatever you are doing. We wrestle, tickle, play blocks or cars, sometimes enjoy a book, whatever you would like in the few moments we get (before or after work). I hope you never hope your childhood was any different than it was, I have loved you deeply every moment I've been given. I cherish it all, even when you are grumpy! :)
My primary responsibility is to be your parent first. I will discipline you, I will ground you, and at some point you will make choices that make me sad or disappoint me but I will always love you. I will always be here for you, listen to you and support you. I will speak the truth to you as sternly or delicately as I see fit for each situation. I will make mistakes and disappoint you at some point, I hope I will have taught you enough grace to forgive me and continue to love me. I hope someday we enjoy many hobbies together and at some point (maybe not until you are an adult) I hope you consider me your friend.
Love you to the moon and back,
Momma

Fear and Parenting Decisions
Liam,
If there is one thing (other than loving you without condition) that I can promise you it's this: I will not parent you out of fear. What I mean is this, too many parents [in my opinion] make parenting decisions based on fear. Such as; I'm afraid circumcise, not circumcise, vaccinate, not vaccinate. Fear leads their decision making process.
I will not do that. I will do my best to research and educate myself on topics on your behalf (until you are old enough to have input), I will put a lot of thought into these choices. I will seek out opinions that I respect and trust and pray hard before doing what I think is in your best interest.
As much as I love your dad, this is responsibility that rests solely on my shoulders, at least for now. Perhaps when you are older he'll be more active but for the most part it seems I lead the way.
Which is why you were circumcised, and today you had your first round of vaccinations. Neither appointment was easy, it's not fun to see you cry or be upset and scared but it's what we believe is best for you.
Love you Baby Boy,
Momma

Responisbility
Dearest Liam,
I've been thinking a lot about the new responsibilities you've brought into my life. There are many, they are vast and complex...and I would not trade them for anything this world has to offer!
Sometimes I stand looking at you while you sleep and I'm a bit afraid, how will I ever accomplish all these responsibilities? How will I teach you to be kind and loving, how will I ever teach you all you need to know about God, how will I ever potty train you??? LOL! I know I am not alone in these duties but as your mother I consider it the most important thing I will ever do in raising you. I likely won't ever have a Ph.D or be a CEO but I will always be your mom. I will always, always, always do my best for you no matter the cost.
So forgive me when I screw up ever now and then, we are both learning at the same time after all, but I promise you I'm doing 110% everyday, all day.
I love you,
Momma
